Israel has decided to completely cut off electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip, which is another step in tightening the blockade of the enclave. The relevant document was signed by Energy Minister Eli Cohen.
According to the Telegram channel “Today in Israel”, the order does not specify the exact date of the shutdown, and it is not yet known whether this means an immediate power outage. It is expected that in the coming hours it will become clear how this decision will be implemented.
Context of the solution
The Israeli authorities continue their policy of a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, demanding the return of Israeli hostages abducted by Hamas.
At the same time, experts point out that the enclave’s electricity supply was already almost completely limited, with the exception of electricity used to run desalination plants. Most Gazans have long been forced to rely on diesel generators.
What’s next?
A power cut could further aggravate the situation in Gaza, especially given the humanitarian crisis. At the same time, Israel insists that it will not ease the blockade until the terrorists release the abducted citizens.
