As Time Ukraine Israel reports with reference to Vesti.co.il, Israel demonstrated its determination in the confrontation with Iran by carrying out liquidations in Beirut and Tehran. Idiot Achronot military columnist Ron Ben-Ishai analyzes Tehran’s possible reactions and considers the prospects for further actions.
In the last day, two significant liquidations took place: in Beirut, a high-ranking commander of Hezbollah, Fuad Shukr, was killed, and in Tehran, another key figure, believed to be connected to the Iranian authorities, was killed. These events are forcing Iran to react, but how exactly is not yet clear. Possibilities range from full-scale war to a token response, and discussions continue in Tehran.
Ben-Ishai emphasizes that Israel has sent a clear signal: it is ready for large-scale actions not only against Iran’s proxies, but also against Tehran itself, if the aggression does not stop. However, it also means that Israel must be prepared for appropriate measures, including possible missile and drone attacks by Iran and its allies.
In Iran, they realize that Israel could coordinate its actions with the US, especially in the case of Shukr’s elimination. This adds additional pressure on Tehran, which is faced with the dilemma of reacting immediately or waiting for the end of its nuclear program, which could change the balance of power in the region.
Thus, Iran is now faced with a difficult choice: whether to start a full-scale war or continue to use proxies to conduct hostilities. At the same time, Ben-Ishai notes, Tehran would likely prefer to end its nuclear program in order to minimize US interference and strengthen its position in a potential conflict.
One thing is clear: the situation in the region remains tense, and any mistake can lead to unpredictable consequences.
