Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar welcomed the decision of US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to declare the Yemeni Houthi movement a foreign terrorist organisation. This was reported by The Jerusalem Post.
“I welcome the decision of President Trump and Secretary Rubio. The Houthis are mercenaries of the Iranian regime who have launched hundreds of rocket and drone attacks on Israeli civilian cities for no reason, paralysed international trade and threatened the stability of the entire world. Terrorism must be destroyed!” said Saar.
The head of Israeli diplomacy stressed that this decision by Washington is an important step in the fight against global terrorism. He stressed that the Houthis pose a threat not only to Israel but also to global security, in particular to key sea lanes in the Red Sea, which remain under constant attack from them.
Gideon Saar called on international partners to support the US position and impose similar sanctions against the group. According to him, joint international pressure can stop the destabilising actions of the Houthis and weaken Iran’s influence in the region.
The US decision was a response to a series of attacks by the Houthis, who have significantly stepped up their attacks on Israel in recent months and are obstructing shipping in the Red Sea, which has already affected global logistics and trade.
