The Trumps, Donald and Melania, arrived at the White House after a morning service at St John’s Episcopal Church. According to CNN, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden warmly greeted President-elect Trump and his wife at the entrance to the residence.
“Welcome home,” Biden told Trump as he got out of the car.
Traditionally, the president-elect and vice president and their spouses visit the White House after the service to have a brief private meeting with the current president and first lady. Such meetings symbolise the peaceful transfer of power in the United States.
Before heading to the Capitol for the swearing-in ceremony, the two pairs are expected to have tea at the residence. Biden and Trump, following a long-standing protocol, will travel together to the inauguration site, where the newly elected president will officially take office.
This meeting in the White House became an important symbol of political stability and continuity of power in the United States.
