According to Reuters, the suspects are linked to the Palestinian group Hamas, which has been at war with Israel since October 2023. According to the Jordanian authorities, it was this group that tried to destabilise the situation inside the country and incite the Palestinian population to anti-government protests.
According to the Jordanian General Intelligence Directorate, at least one missile was ready to be launched, and a clandestine drone manufacturing plant was discovered. The operation to document and monitor the conspirators has been ongoing since 2021.
The authorities stated that the aim of the criminal group was to sow chaos, cause material damage and destabilise the situation inside the country.
The Jordanian security services also reminded that over the past year, they have repeatedly blocked attempts to smuggle weapons by groups linked to Iran and pro-Iranian militants in Syria.
