British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has handed US President Donald Trump an official letter from King Charles III inviting him to pay a state visit to the United Kingdom. However, this decision caused a wave of outrage among the British.
According to media reports, more than 178,000 people have signed a petition demanding that King Charles III and Prime Minister Starmer immediately cancel Trump’s visit.
“This is the same Donald Trump who in recent weeks has grown closer to Putin, raised trade tariffs, cut global aid and humiliated Zelenskyy right in the White House. Meanwhile, his friend Elon Musk is interfering in British politics and spreading lies on social media,” the statement reads.
The petition emphasises that the date of the visit has not yet been determined, which gives society a chance to influence the government’s decision. The activists call on the British public to demonstrate that Trump’s return visit is undesirable for the country.
As a reminder, Donald Trump’s previous state visit to the UK in 2019 was accompanied by mass protests, including large-scale demonstrations in London and other cities across the country. Now, amid new scandals and political tensions, public opposition to his return is growing with renewed vigour.
