Ukrainian forces launched a massive strike on four Russian airbases using long-range drones, a source quoted by Reuters said. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called this attack “timely” and “precise”, stressing that the drones fulfilled their mission “exactly as it should”.
The attack targets, which included air bases in Voronezh, Kursk, Savasleyka and Borysoglibsk, were chosen to destroy Russia’s ability to use fighter jets to drop planning bombs on Ukrainian territory. The assessment of the extent of the damage is currently ongoing, and there is no independent confirmation of the information yet.
“Thank you for the accurate, effective and timely strikes on Russian airports. Ukrainian drones performed their mission perfectly,” Zelenskyy said.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Russia reported the destruction of 117 drones and four operational-tactical missiles launched by Ukraine in several regions, including the Kursk Region.
The attack on the air bases took place against the background of the advance of Ukrainian troops into the Kursk region after an unexpected offensive that brought Ukraine its biggest territorial gains since 2022.
At the same time, after this offensive, there is a decrease in the number of Russian bombings in the Kharkiv region, as reported by the local governor.
