Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday praised U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s decision to consider Senator J.D. Vance as a potential vice president, citing the official Russian news agency TASS.

Known for his opposition to supporting Ukraine, Vance’s possible appointment has been positively received by the Russian leadership. “We can only welcome this because it is exactly what we need – an end to arming Ukraine,” Lavrov said. “The war will end. Let’s start seeking solutions,” he added.

Lavrov emphasized that Vance’s appointment could lead to a shift in U.S. foreign policy, which, in Russia’s view, would help end the conflict in Ukraine. He also expressed hope that this new approach would enable peaceful resolutions to the ongoing disputes.

Lavrov’s comments highlight the significance of diplomatic changes and the potential for a reset in U.S.-Russia relations if Trump wins the presidential election.
