A €5.5 million premium yacht belonging to one of the key figures in a large-scale corruption scandal at the State Property Fund of Ukraine has been seized in Italy. This was reported by the press service of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine.

“The actions of the criminals were stopped thanks to the international cooperation of NABU detectives, SAPO prosecutors and colleagues from France and Italy,” the NABU said.

According to the investigation, the seized assets were part of a scheme that allowed the former head of the State Property Fund, Dmytro Sennychenko, and his accomplices to withdraw the proceeds of crime. In particular, the investigation revealed that they seized more than UAH 500 million of public funds through control over several large enterprises.

The investigative actions in Italy complemented earlier seizures of real estate in France totalling EUR 6.5 million and confiscation of valuable assets in Austria.

Sennichenko is currently in hiding in Spain, where he has reportedly registered a new company. He and the other defendants in the case are facing money laundering charges, which could result in significant prison sentences.
