On Tuesday, a massive explosion occurred east of Moscow in the city of Kirzhach, Vladimir region, where one of Russia’s arsenals is located. This was reported by local media and Telegram channels close to the security services. Following the incident, local authorities declared a state of emergency and began evacuating residents of nearby villages.
According to Reuters, footage of a huge fire flash and thick smoke rising into the sky is circulating on social media. Information about the cause of the explosion is being clarified.
The Russian Ministry of Defence confirmed the incident, noting that the fire was caused by a violation of safety rules, which resulted in the detonation of ammunition stored in the warehouse. According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties.
Vladimir Region Governor Alexander Avdeev said that the explosion occurred in the Kirzhachsky district and that rescuers from the Emergency Situations Ministry were working at the scene. However, details about the damaged facility were not disclosed.
The Baza Telegram channel, linked to Russian security forces, reports at least 10-11 explosions, and fire brigades from other regions were brought in to extinguish a large-scale fire.
The local administration of Kirzhach reported on its official Telegram channel that evacuations were underway in the settlements of Barsovo and Myrnyi. There has been no official confirmation of the source of the explosion – a weapons arsenal – but the situation remains tense.
The Russian authorities have so far refrained from commenting in detail on the scale of the incident.
