More than 95% of the unmanned aerial vehicles currently used by the Ukrainian Defence Forces at the front are domestically produced. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Valeriy Churkin in his column for Interfax-Ukraine.
“We have made a major breakthrough in the unmanned systems sector. More than 95% of UAVs currently used at the front are Ukrainian-made,” Churkin said.
To understand the dynamics of development, the Deputy Minister cited data: in 2024, the Ministry of Defence approved more than 330 new models of Ukrainian-made unmanned systems for operation, while in 2023 this figure was only 75 models.
According to Churkin, the reliance on the development of drones was Ukraine’s asymmetric response to the enemy’s significant advantage in the number of soldiers, artillery and equipment. The mass production and use of domestic drones can significantly increase the efficiency of combat operations and compensate for the lack of resources.
The active development of the unmanned systems sector also demonstrates the growth of Ukraine’s technological potential in the military sphere, which is critical for success on the battlefield.
