A recent poll conducted by the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) in conjunction with the Coalition for Regional Security has revealed Israeli attitudes towards potential changes in the Middle East. The results, published in the Yisrael Hayom newspaper, show significant support among Israeli citizens for an agreement with the Hamas terrorist group and the creation of a new regional order involving the administration of US President-elect Donald Trump.

According to the survey, more than 72% of respondents approved a package of measures that includes the release of hostages, the cessation of hostilities, normalisation of relations with Saudi Arabia, steps towards separation from the Palestinians, and the formation of a regional coalition against Iran. In the Jewish sector, this sequence of events is supported by about 80%, while in the Arab sector – 46.5%.

When asked about a Middle East deal without mentioning a prisoner deal, 65% of Jewish and 58% of Arab participants supported peace with Saudi Arabia, building a coalition against Iran, and moving toward a separation with the Palestinians with the support of the Trump administration and moderate Arab countries.

In addition, 69 per cent of Israelis said that moderate Arab countries should actively participate in solving the Palestinian problem together with Israel. Among the Jewish population, this idea is supported by 71%, and among the Arab population – 59%. About 16% of respondents opposed this approach.

This study underscores Israel’s strong interest in and support for broad-based diplomatic efforts to improve regional stability and security.
