Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke in Jerusalem at an international government conference on combating anti-Semitism, where he outlined his position on the scale of the threat posed by Hamas, radical Islam and modern manifestations of hatred against Jews. This was reported by The Times of Israel.
“Anti-Semitism is a disease that threatens the entire civilised world.”
– said the prime minister, stressing that its modern forms are manifested in movements such as Hamas, as well as in rhetoric and actions in Yemen, Iran, Lebanon and Gaza.
Netanyahu mentioned the bloody attack on 7 October by Hamas militants:
“If these terrorists could, they would have slaughtered every last man, woman and child. We saw not just an attack, we saw the true face of evil,” he said.
The prime minister also recalled how, before the 2023 war, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah dismissively called Israel “a spider’s web that breaks easily”.
“Today, figures like Nasrallah or Ismail Haniyeh no longer have the same power. Hamas is on its knees,” he stressed.
Netanyahu’s speech was delivered against the backdrop of the participation in the conference of representatives of right-wing political forces from Europe, some of whom cause a mixed reaction in Israeli society due to their ideology. However, the Prime Minister stressed the need for global solidarity in the fight against anti-Semitism and terrorist threats.
This speech took place against the backdrop of an ongoing international debate on how to counter radicalism, hatred and security threats facing Israel and the Jewish diaspora around the world.
