On the night of Monday, 21 October, the Ukrainian capital was once again in the crosshairs of Russian attack drones. According to eyewitnesses and information from Suspilne, Kyiv was shaken by a powerful explosion. The incident occurred against the backdrop of an air raid alert that had been activated earlier in the evening, warning residents of a possible threat.
An enemy drone was approaching the city from the east, and the city’s air defence systems were immediately put on alert. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged citizens to stay in shelters until the alert was over. He confirmed that air defence systems are working to stop the attack: “The air raid alert is on! Air defence systems are working in the capital. Stay in shelters until the air raid is over”.
Kyiv residents are actively sharing their observations on social media. The city remains at a high level of readiness for any threats, as such attacks are becoming more frequent and the aggressor’s strategy of using drones to strike large settlements is clearly intensifying.
Ukrainian forces continue to bravely defend the airspace over the capital, nullifying enemy attempts to cause significant damage to the city’s infrastructure. However, living in constant danger has become a harsh reality for Kyiv residents, where every new day can bring another challenge in the form of missile or drone attacks.
Information on possible casualties or damage is currently being clarified.
At the time of publication, the air raid alert in Kyiv is ongoing. Authorities are urging residents to stay in shelters and take all safety precautions until the official all-clear signal is given. Operational services continue to work, and air defence systems remain on constant alert to protect the capital from new threats.
