Oil storage facility on fire in Crimea

On Monday night, a large-scale fire broke out at an oil storage facility in Russian-occupied Feodosia, on the southern coast of Crimea. This was reported by local officials appointed by Moscow, Reuters reports.

According to a statement by the Ukrainian army, it was they who attacked the oil terminal, which the military claims is the largest in Crimea and was used for the needs of the Russian occupation forces. “The Feodosia terminal played a key role in providing the Russian army with fuel,” the Ukrainian Armed Forces said in a statement on its Telegram channel.

Local officials appointed by Russia declared a “technical” emergency in the city due to the fire, noting that there were no injuries. Oleg Kryuchkov, an adviser to the Crimean government, confirmed that the cause of the fire is still unknown, but did not rule out a series of explosions heard by local residents.

The Russian Ministry of Defence said that its air defence forces had shot down 12 Ukrainian drones that had attacked Crimea. Traffic was temporarily restricted on some sections of roads in Feodosia.

Throughout the war, Ukraine repeatedly attacked Russian military targets in Crimea using drones, which resulted in damage to several Russian ships and important infrastructure facilities in the port of Sevastopol.

For Moscow, the Black Sea Fleet is not only a key element for conducting military operations against Ukraine, but also an important tool of influence in the Middle East and Europe.
