Overnight attack on Odesa: three injured, destroyed housing, educational institution and infrastructure

On the evening of 21 April, Russian troops launched a massive kamikaze drone attack on Odesa. The attack injured at least three people, damaged residential buildings, an educational institution, civilian infrastructure and transport. Large-scale fires broke out in the city.

The head of Odesa Regional State Administration Oleg Kiper, the city’s mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported this on their Telegram channels.

“All relevant services are working to eliminate the consequences of the Russian attacks. Information about the victims is being clarified,” Kiper said immediately after the attack.

He later clarified that three people were wounded. Their condition is not yet known.

The enemy attacked residential areas

Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov confirmed that the attack was aimed at densely populated neighbourhoods:

“The enemy hit a residential building in a densely populated area of Odesa. There is a fire at the scene, emergency and utility services are working. Many apartments are damaged.”

Destroyed schools, cars, burning buildings

According to the CMA, in addition to residential buildings, one of the educational institutions was severely damaged. A number of vehicles were also damaged. Fires broke out in several areas.

The State Emergency Service released a video of the response to the impact, which shows damaged buildings, fire and rescuers working on the site.

Air defence forces worked, but there were hits

Official information on the number of drones shot down has not yet been released, but local authorities have confirmed that some of the UAVs were destroyed by air defence forces.

The regional authorities urge residents of Odesa not to ignore air raid warnings and to follow messages from official sources.
