Musab Abd al-Qarim al-Ghassas, also known as Abu Wadi, a migrant from the Gaza Strip, who had previously posted video messages on social media calling for the destruction of Jews and armed struggle against Israel, was detained in the UK.
According to the Daily Mail, Abu Wadi is a member of a Palestinian terrorist organisation. In one of the videos published in September 2024, he appeals to Allah to “completely destroy the Jews” using hate speech.
“Kill them all, make them disappear, make the ground cave in under their feet,” he said in his recording.
Crossing the English Channel and being arrested
According to the investigation, Abu Wadi left the Gaza Strip before Hamas’ attack on Israel on 7 October 2024. Last week, he was detained on a boat with a group of illegal immigrants who crossed the English Channel.
He is currently facing charges of violating migration laws, but the opposition considers this an insufficient measure.
Political reaction and security issues
Representatives of the British opposition and analysts emphasise that Abu Wadi poses a direct terrorist threat not only to the Jewish community, but also to the entire British society.
Politicians have also criticised the government for its ineffective fight against illegal immigration. The detention of radicalised migrants has only intensified the debate on tightening border controls and deporting individuals with potential links to terrorist groups.
Against the backdrop of rising anti-Semitic incidents in Europe, the British authorities are facing the need to strengthen security measures, including the screening of migrants arriving in the country illegally.
