On 1 April, German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock paid a visit to Ukraine, stressing Europe’s unwavering support for Kyiv, the German Foreign Ministry’s website reports.

“At a time when relations between the US and Russia are at a standstill, it is crucial that Europe demonstrates its unequivocal support for Ukraine. The next German government will continue to provide large-scale assistance,” Burbock said.

Ukraine is a symbol of the struggle for democracy

The German foreign minister noted that Putin’s plans to seize Kyiv had failed, and three years later Russia was waging a war of attrition that it could not win.

“No one wants peace more than the Ukrainian people. Ukraine is ready for an immediate ceasefire, but it is Putin who is stalling and faking negotiations, not backing down from his aggressive intentions,” Burbock said.

According to her, international partners should not allow the Kremlin to manipulate the peace process.

NATO’s position and German assistance

Burbock said that at the next meeting of NATO foreign ministers, European countries will send a signal to the US that they need to strengthen support for Kyiv.

She also assured that Germany would continue to help Ukraine. The German government has already approved an additional €3 billion in short-term support and another €8.25 billion in military aid until 2029.

“This is an expression of strong cross-party solidarity and commitment to the security of Europe,” Burbock said.
