British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has paid an official visit to Kyiv. This was announced by Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom Valeriy Zaluzhny on Telegram on Wednesday, 5 February.
“I welcome Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs David Lammy to Ukraine. We will discuss further cooperation and joint projects to strengthen Ukraine’s security,” the diplomat said.
This is Lemmy’s second visit to Ukraine since his appointment as British Foreign Secretary in July 2024. During his visit, he will meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other senior officials to discuss further cooperation between the two countries.
Financial support and assistance to Ukraine
The British government announced that Lammy will announce an additional £55 million (about $68.7 million) in financial aid to Ukraine.
According to the official statement:
- 3 million will be used to continue supplying Ukrainian grain and other food products to Syria;
- 17 million will be allocated to innovative energy projects;
- 10 million will be used to help restore Ukrainian businesses;
- 25 million to support public services.
Long-term support from the UK
The UK Foreign Office stressed that since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the country has already allocated £977 million to support Ukraine. The UK remains one of Ukraine’s key allies in its fight for freedom and territorial integrity.
David Lammy’s visit is expected to strengthen diplomatic and military cooperation between the two countries, as well as further strengthen partnerships in the security and economic sectors.
