Rome is preparing to host five key figures in European security – the defence ministers of Germany, France, Poland, the United Kingdom and Italy. On Friday, 16 May, the Italian capital will host an important meeting to coordinate military support for Ukraine and discuss ways to strengthen European defence.

The French newspaper Sud Ouest reports this, citing the Italian Ministry of Defence. The host of the event, Italian Defence Minister Guido Crozetto, will host colleagues from countries that play a leading role in military assistance to Kyiv.

This is the fourth summit in this format, following meetings in Berlin (November 2024), Warsaw (January 2025) and Paris (March 2025). The results of the meeting are expected to be announced at a joint press conference at 14:45 Kyiv time.

In addition to direct assistance to Ukraine, the defence leaders will discuss strategies for the long-term strengthening of European security, which has become particularly relevant in the face of threats from Russia and challenges to NATO.
