Denmark has taken a significant step forward in providing military support to Ukraine by announcing additional funds for the purchase of defence equipment. These funds will be channelled through an industrial pool created to purchase the necessary weapons and equipment, including with the participation of Danish defence companies. In addition, in partnership with France, Denmark is accelerating the delivery of CAESAR artillery systems, which is critical to Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression. This was reported by Time Ukraine Israel, citing the website of the Danish Ministry of Defence.

Additional funding and defence cooperation

The Danish government has decided to allocate additional funds totalling approximately DKK 2.6 billion to strengthen the industrial pool that procures the necessary weapons for Ukraine. Danish Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen noted that the donations should be directed to Ukraine’s most urgent needs in the context of the ongoing war. He emphasised that it was the defence industry that was able to promptly secure the supply of the necessary weapons, which allowed the Danish government to decide to increase funding.

“We want to ensure that Ukraine is able to succeed in its fight for freedom and set an example of solidarity for other countries. These funds will help us to implement the last contracts of this year,” said Troels Lund Poulsen.

Accelerated supply of artillery

In addition to financial support, Denmark, together with France, will make an important contribution to the supply of CAESAR artillery pieces to Ukraine. Initially, the delivery was planned to take place by 2026, but now, thanks to the acceleration of the process, Ukraine will be able to receive these systems as early as 2025. Artillery is one of the most sought-after weapons for the Ukrainian forces, and the transfer of this equipment will provide important reinforcement in times of war.

“These systems are an important addition to the arsenal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. I am pleased that Denmark can actively contribute to their delivery and help Ukraine to receive the necessary weapons as soon as possible,” the Danish Defence Minister said.

Denmark continues to be at the forefront of supporting Ukraine

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen noted that the situation in Ukraine will remain critical, and it is important that Europe acts quickly and decisively. “These are our concrete steps to support Ukraine. Denmark remains at the forefront of Ukraine’s struggle for freedom, and we hope that other countries will follow suit,” he added.

Long-term military support

According to the government’s decision, Denmark has planned military support for Ukraine in the amount of about DKK 52.7 billion for the period 2022-2028. This includes funding through the National Compromise and the Ukraine Fund. In 2024-2028, it is envisaged to return about DKK 15 billion to the reserves of the Ukraine Fund, given the need to further increase support funding.

Denmark, together with other allies, continues to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities, ensuring its ability to defend itself against Russian aggression in the context of the ongoing war.
