Fire extinguishing continues at ChNPP: over 90 rescuers are involved

Firefighting operations have resumed at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant (ChNPP). This was announced on Monday, 17 February, by the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management (SAUEZM).

Three smouldering foci have been detected and are currently being extinguished. Two groups of climbers (four people each) are involved in the firefighting operations, and another group is preparing to partially open the shelter structures to fight the fires.

More than 90 rescuers are involved in the work

The fire was extinguished by 91 rescuers and 18 vehicles.

The situation is constantly monitored using drones equipped with thermal imagers that can detect hidden fire sources.

Details about the possible causes of the fire and the level of radiation background have not yet been disclosed.
