France will provide Ukraine with an additional batch of long-range SCALP missiles and continue training 2,000 Ukrainian soldiers, French Defence Minister Sebastian Le Coronneu said in an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche. According to him, a stable level of international support will help Ukraine maintain its defence capabilities and consider political decisions at the appropriate time.
Lecorneuil also noted that Russia’s attacks deep into Ukraine’s territory may intensify this winter. In this regard, France will provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with additional Mistral man-portable air defence systems and ten more SCALP missiles, which will allow Ukrainian forces to conduct precision strikes on important targets behind the front line. He stressed that this transfer is in line with French President Emmanuel Macron’s promise to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
This package of military assistance is part of France’s efforts to support Ukraine’s defence capabilities and counter Russian aggression, Lecorneuil stressed.
