Representatives of the French and British general staffs visited Ukraine to discuss the deployment of military contingents, as well as ensuring security at sea and in the air. According to Yevheniya Kravchuk, deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, the talks are part of the “coalition of the resolute” initiative supported by London and Paris.

In particular, the UK has offered to take on some of the responsibility for patrolling Ukrainian airspace. This issue is being considered as part of a new security agreement between the two countries.

Kravchuk stressed that the initiators of the security alliance are British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron. They have already held meetings with representatives of other countries to discuss support for Ukraine.

The European Union is also involved in a new defence strategy. The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commissioner for Defence presented the ReArm Europe programme, which provides for large-scale rearmament of Europe. Ukraine will become a key part of the security component of this project.

Kravchuk also noted that Poland, which currently holds the presidency of the European Council, considers Ukraine’s accession to the EU an integral part of pan-European security.
