Brigadier General Gennadiy Shapovalov has resigned from the post of commander of the Operational Command “South” and will start working in Wiesbaden, Germany, where he will coordinate security assistance to Ukraine. The military officer posted this information on the JFO South Facebook page.
According to the general, he was honoured to lead the military team that has been faithfully defending Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
“I am convinced that you will continue to do your best and fulfil your military duty with dignity, increasing the glory of the Ukrainian army for the sake of our victory,” he said in his address to his subordinates.
Shapovalov thanked the personnel for their service, dedication and professionalism, stressing that the Ukrainian military continues to demonstrate a high level of readiness and resilience.
Role in international coordination
It is known that Shapovalov will now work in Wiesbaden, where the US Armed Forces Command in Europe is located. He will be responsible for coordinating international security assistance to Ukraine, which is an important element of supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the fight against Russian aggression.
It is worth noting that Ukraine has recently been receiving more and more military support from its partners, including equipment, ammunition and training programmes for the military. Shapovalov’s involvement in this process could increase the effectiveness of cooperation between Kyiv and its Western allies.
