On 27 January, thousands of Palestinians moved to the north of the Gaza Strip through the Netzarim corridor after Israel announced that it would allow their return. This was reported by The Times of Israel.

Starting at 7am, local residents began to move along Rashid Street towards the north of the Gaza Strip. Footage was posted on social media showing people returning to their homes.

“The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) said it had opened a corridor for displaced people, allowing civilians to return,” the statement said.

The IDF also began withdrawing its troops from part of the Netzarim Corridor, particularly from its western part. According to the terms of the ceasefire agreement, the military must completely withdraw east of Rashid Street and dismantle all its installations in the area.

The day before, tens of thousands of Palestinians had gathered on Rashid Street, waiting for the area to open, but the IDF urged residents not to approach due to an alleged violation of the agreement by Hamas. However, the problem was resolved, and people began to return in the morning.

“The return of civilians is part of the steps to implement the ceasefire agreement,” the newspaper notes.

Hamas confirmed that it will release six hostages this week, as previously agreed.

The situation in the region remains tense, but the parties appear to be committed to maintaining the fragile ceasefire and restoring stability in the Gaza Strip.
