During a special operation in the city of Khan Younis, the Israeli military found the bodies of two dead hostages held by Hamas. This was announced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Timeukraoineisrael reports citing Reuters.
The victims were Judy Weinstein-Hagai and Gad Hagai, a married couple with US citizenship. According to the Times of Israel, they were killed by Hamas militants during an attack on 7 October 2023. Their deaths were confirmed back in December, but their bodies were only found now.
Israel estimates that 56 hostages are still being held by Hamas, with less than half of them likely still alive.
The Israeli army continues military operations in Gaza, stressing that the release of hostages remains a priority.
