Six hostages, whom Hamas was supposed to release in the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, may return home as early as Saturday. A source told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.

According to the source, the group detained them because they were trying to secure the release of Palestinians who were released under the Gilad Shalit deal and later re-arrested by Israel.

If the liberation takes place, Israel may allow caravans and heavy equipment to enter Gaza.

Meanwhile, negotiations on the second phase of the agreement remain in doubt. The Israeli delegation in Cairo has not received a mandate to hold the next stage of discussions. At the same time, Tel Aviv denies that construction equipment has been brought into Gaza, despite the images that have appeared online.
