Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer has arrived in the United States for talks with President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff. They discuss the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and the exchange of hostages, The Jerusalem Post reports.
According to sources, Vitkoff also held talks with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The senior official admitted that this phase of the deal is more complicated, but there are chances for its successful completion.
The situation is complicated by the position of Hamas, which demands a complete end to the war in exchange for the release of hostages. At the same time, Israel says that the fighting will not stop as long as Hamas remains in the Gaza Strip. Diplomats acknowledge that the negotiations are not easy, but progress is being made.
