Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced that Italy will host the next conference on Ukraine’s recovery, which will take place on 10-11 July 2025. She made the announcement after a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Rome, AFP reports.
“Ukraine will not be left alone, and we will be there for as long as it takes,” Maloney stressed during the press conference.
Italy strongly supports Ukraine in its fight against Russian forces by providing humanitarian aid and weapons. At the same time, Rome insists that these weapons should be used exclusively on the territory of Ukraine. Meloni also noted that the support is aimed at creating the best conditions for peace talks, where “peace cannot be capitulation”.
During the visit, Zelenskyy said that a ceasefire with Russia is not currently being discussed with European allies. He also called for more support from the West, given the approaching harsh winter. This tour of Europe, during which Zelenskyy has already visited London and Paris, will conclude with a visit to Berlin, and on Friday morning, the Ukrainian leader will meet with Pope Francis at the Vatican.
Zelenskyy’s European trip comes as Russian troops continue their offensive in eastern Ukraine and ahead of the US presidential election. At the same time, Zelenskyy has criticised the slowness of Western allies’ decisions, especially regarding the provision of long-range missiles that Ukraine plans to use to strike military targets deep inside Russia.
Meanwhile, Russian troops continue to gradually advance in Donetsk region, particularly towards the town of Pokrovsk, which is an important logistical hub for Ukrainian troops.
