French President Emmanuel Macron said that the demand of the “coalition of the willing” for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine had been previously agreed with US President Donald Trump. He said this at a press conference following the summit in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.
“We have just had a video conference with President Trump to report to him on our work, to take stock of the initiative he launched a few months ago and to agree on our positions on all these points,” Macron said.
He clarified that starting on Monday, the Coalition of the Willing will officially demand a 30-day ceasefire throughout Ukraine. Control over the observance of the ceasefire is primarily entrusted to the United States, although European partners will also join the monitoring.
Macron stressed that this is not only a step towards reducing escalation, but also the beginning of the process of creating long-term security guarantees for Ukraine. The two leaders also discussed the format of defence support, including the creation of a special deterrence force and the deployment of reassurance contingents.
“We must develop a format of an army that would enable Ukraine to withstand possible attacks in the future,” the French president concluded.
