The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) is investigating possible abuses in the actions of Defence Minister Rustem Umerov as part of a criminal case initiated on the basis of a complaint. This was announced by NABU Director Semen Kryvonos at a press conference.
Details of the investigation
According to Kryvonos, a pre-trial investigation is underway to establish whether the Minister’s actions constitute a crime. “Whether there is a crime or not, whether there are perpetrators or not – this is still being investigated. The criminal proceedings were initiated following a complaint about possible facts of abuse,” he stressed.
On 25 January, it became known that the Anti-Corruption Action Centre had filed a relevant application with the NABU amid a scandal involving the leadership of the Defence Procurement Agency.
Qualification of the case
NABU registered criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of office).
The investigation is ongoing, and NABU detectives are analysing the available evidence and identifying possible persons involved.
