NATO will remain by Ukraine’s side not only in this war, but also in the future to guarantee its security. This was stated by the new Secretary General of the Alliance, Mark Rutte, after an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Turkey. This was reported by Ukrinform.
“This is not about fuelling the war, but about ensuring Ukraine’s ability to defend itself today and in the future,” Rutte stressed.
According to him, NATO ministers also unanimously supported the efforts of US President Donald Trump to achieve a just and lasting peace, which remains a priority for the entire Euro-Atlantic area.
One of the central topics of discussion was the preparations for the NATO summit in The Hague in six weeks’ time. Key decisions are expected to be made there, including an increase in defence spending. According to Rutte, the current level of 2% of GDP is insufficient, so many allies are already preparing for a significant increase in defence investment.
It was also discussed:
- Increasing the capacity of the defence industry in NATO countries.
- Removing barriers to joint military production.
- Investing in infrastructure and defence resilience.
“Our support for Ukraine, increased defence spending and the modernisation of the defence industry will help to guarantee the stability of the entire Euro-Atlantic area,” the Alliance Secretary General concluded.
