In an interview with Fox News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed support for Donald Trump’s plan to resettle Palestinians from Gaza, noting that the US president has become Israel’s greatest friend in the White House. On the Hannity programme, Netanyahu spoke in detail about his position on the Palestinian issue, the threat from Iran, Tehran’s nuclear ambitions, and the situation in the region, The Jerusalem Post reports.
Netanyahu said that Trump had taken a number of important steps in favour of Israel, including recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and moving the US embassy there, recognising Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, and withdrawing from the so-called “disastrous” Iran deal. “These are extremely important achievements,” the Israeli prime minister stressed.
He also stressed the threat posed by Iran to the entire Middle East, saying that Tehran’s nuclear ambitions are a “hostile target” for the region and even for the United States. According to Netanyahu, without the measures taken by Israel, Iran could have achieved the ability to develop nuclear weapons ten years ago.
Regarding the situation in Gaza, the Israeli Prime Minister confirmed that Israel has released more than 70 per cent of the living hostages and is continuing its efforts to free all of them, including those held by Hamas. Netanyahu stated that this process is on his mind, as well as that of the US President, and promised that all remaining hostages will be released.
At the end of the interview, Netanyahu said that the changes in Trump’s policy have boosted the spirit of Israelis and changed the situation in the Middle East, creating a new balance of power in the region, which concerns not only Iran but also the entire global politics.
