Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has condemned the words of Canadian politician Mark Carney, who made the statement about “genocide in Gaza” during a rally. In a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter) on Thursday evening, Netanyahu called the words “irresponsible” and accused Carney of attacking the “one Jewish state.”
The incident occurred on Tuesday at a Liberal campaign event. During his speech, Carney was interrupted by a protester who shouted: “There is genocide in Gaza.” In response, the politician said: “I know, that’s why we have an arms embargo.”
Later, on Wednesday, Carney tried to soften his position, claiming that he did not hear the word “genocide” in the protester’s shout. However, the video of the event quickly spread online, thanks in part to a post by Netanyahu, who added: “Canada has always stood with civilisation. And Mr Carney should do the same.”

“Instead of supporting Israel – a democracy that is waging a just war with just methods against the barbarians of Hamas – it is attacking the only Jewish state,” the Israeli prime minister added.
This diplomatic conflict is exacerbating tensions between Israel and Western countries amid the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.
