Netanyahu tells Trump that Israel will make decisions based on national interests

Прем'єр-міністр Ізраїлю Біньямін Нетаньяху

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that his country will make decisions based on its own national interests during a conversation with former US President Donald Trump. This was reported by the Prime Minister’s Office on Sunday, Reutersreports .

“Prime Minister Netanyahu has reiterated what he has said publicly on numerous occasions: Israel is taking into account the issues raised by the US administration, but will ultimately make decisions based on national interests,” the statement said.

This conversation took place against the backdrop of heightened tensions in the region, where Israel is forced to balance its long-standing alliance with the United States with its own security needs and diplomatic challenges. Netanyahu’s words underscore his government’s intention to maintain independence in key decision-making despite the challenging international environment.

Trump, who has maintained a warm relationship with Netanyahu since his presidency, during which he made several decisions in favour of Israel, including recognising Jerusalem as the country’s capital and moving the US embassy there, continues to engage in dialogue with the Israeli leader despite the change in the US administration.
