In recent days, the topic of Ukraine’s possible nuclear arming has gained new momentum. Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation, has expressed his concern over recent statements and rumours in the media. In a meeting with Russian officials, he noted that such actions by Ukraine would be perceived as a direct threat and stated that Russia “will not allow this under any circumstances”.

According to RBK-Ukraine, Putin’s words, which emphasise the seriousness of the Kremlin’s approach to this issue, are perceived as a direct response to an article by the German newspaper Bild. According to this source, an anonymous Ukrainian official hinted that Ukraine might consider developing nuclear weapons in the event of new Russian aggression. Zelenskyy, answering journalists’ questions, categorically rejected this possibility, stressing that the development of nuclear weapons is not being discussed.

Putin also noted that the modern world provides technological capabilities to create nuclear weapons, but it will be difficult for Ukraine. “We can clearly track any attempts to move in this direction and we will react adequately,” he added.

These statements once again highlight the tensions between Russia and Ukraine, adding another layer of intrigue and concern to regional security. How this will affect the future dynamics between the two countries remains a major topic of discussion among international analysts and policy makers.
