The European Council has approved Norway’s voluntary financial contribution of NOK 1 billion (approximately EUR 86 million) to support the Ukrainian army. The funds will be channelled through the European Peacekeeping Fund to supply large-calibre artillery ammunition, the European External Action Service reports .
“This contribution demonstrates Norway’s commitment to European efforts in support of Ukraine and to the initiative of EU High Representative Kaja Kallas on artillery support for the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” the statement said.
What’s important:
- In April, Kaya Kallas announced a goal of 2 million artillery shells for Ukraine by 2025.
- As of June, 2/3 of this amount has already been collected.
- Norway’s contribution will be a significant step towards the full achievement of the goal.
Financing also includes:
- 470 million euros allocated by the EU for artillery ammunition as part of the second instalment of interest accrued on frozen Russian assets.
