The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine plans to extend martial law and general mobilisation for another 90 days – until 9 May 2025. This was announced by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak of the Voice party on his Telegram channel.

The Ukrainian president is expected to submit two relevant bills to parliament approving his decrees. According to Zheleznyak, the vote in the Verkhovna Rada will take place early next week, probably on Monday.

Approval procedure

  1. The President submits draft laws to the Parliament.
  2. The Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence is reviewing the documents.
  3. Once approved by the committee, the bills are put to a vote in the parliamentary hall.
  4. Decrees must be signed by the president to become effective.

This will be the fourteenth time that Ukraine has extended martial law and mobilisation since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

The extension of martial law and mobilisation will allow the state to maintain a high level of defence capability in the face of ongoing aggression. However, the decision also requires the understanding and support of society, which continues to live under conditions of anxiety and restrictions.
