The Embassy of Israel in Kyiv published a video message from President Yitzhak Herzog
On the eve of an important historical milestone – the thousandth day of the Russian-Ukrainian war – Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog recorded a video address to the Ukrainian people. The video was published on the X platform by the official Embassy of Israel in Kyiv. This was reported by the news portal TimeUkraineIsrael with reference to Israeli Channel 9.
“We are with you in this difficult time”
In his address, President Herzog stressed that Israel, as a country that has experienced many trials of war, understands the gravity of the situation in which Ukraine finds itself. He emphasised: “As a country that knows the pain of war, we want to say to our friends in Ukraine: you are not alone! We feel your pain, we feel your suffering. And we continue to grieve with you because of the enormous losses – many have lost their lives, their homes, their loved ones, their sense of security for themselves and their children.”
The President of Israel also reaffirmed his unwavering support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and expressed hope for a speedy cessation of hostilities through diplomatic efforts. He noted that Israel will continue to work to stop the senseless suffering and loss of life.
Tragic losses among the Jewish community of Ukraine
In his address, Itzhak Herzog also mentioned the recent tragedies that have occurred in Ukraine as a result of the war. One of them was another Russian attack on Kyiv on 30 October, which severely damaged the building of the Pearl Jewish School. The loss of this religious institution was yet another painful blow to the Jewish community in Ukraine, which has already suffered greatly as a result of the hostilities.
The Israeli leader also recalled another tragic event – the death of the son of Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Asman, Matityahu (Anton) Sambirsky, who gave his life to defend Ukraine. In September 2023, during the fight against Russian aggressors, he died of gunshot wounds. Sambirskyi was one of the many heroes who, despite the danger, fought for the peace and freedom of their homeland.
Supporting IDF soldiers and the mission of Moshe Asman
In his speeches, Moshe Asman has repeatedly stressed the importance of supporting those who are fighting for the future: “In my work in Israel, I feel a deep responsibility to support the IDF soldiers. This is a special mission that I am proud to fulfil,” he said. “I see how important it is to bring light in these dark times, giving hope and faith to those who risk their lives every day to defend their land.”
This address by the President of Israel is a powerful symbol of international support for Ukraine in its struggle for freedom and territorial integrity. An important part of this support is not only military assistance, but also moral support, which is of particular importance to Ukrainians in these difficult times.
Ending the war through diplomacy
At the same time, Itzhak Herzog, like many world leaders, expressed hope for a speedy diplomatic settlement of the conflict, which would allow Ukraine to restore peace and ensure the safety of its citizens. For Israel, a country that has also experienced numerous wars and conflicts, the pursuit of peace and stability is a major goal in the international arena.
