An important event in Warsaw

A key event was held in Warsaw, where the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, with the support of the US Embassy, presented a roadmap for opening the country’s airspace under martial law. The meeting brought together about a hundred representatives of the aviation industry, including the relevant regulators of the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as heads of Ukrainian and foreign airlines, insurers and leasing companies. This was reported by TimeUkraineiIsrael with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development.

Strategic Objective

Deputy Minister Serhiy Derkach stressed the importance of preserving Ukraine’s aviation infrastructure, noting that this is a strategic task in times of war. Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksiy Kuleba emphasised: “This is the first expert discussion that will help create conditions for the rapid resumption of civilian flights when the time comes.”

Support from the US

At the beginning of the event, Mary Elizabeth Madden, Economic Counsellor at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, stressed the importance of international support in restoring civil aviation. She confirmed the United States’ readiness to provide expert and technical assistance to Ukraine.

Presentation of the Roadmap

The presentation of a step-by-step plan for the partial opening of the airspace was a key stage of the event. A risk assessment for civil aviation was prepared by the State Aviation Administration and presented by its First Deputy Chairman, Serhii Korshuk. International airport managers, such as Oleksii Dubrevskyi, CEO of Boryspil Airport, and Tetiana Romanovska, CEO of Lviv Danylo Halytskyi Airport, spoke about the readiness of their airports for the possible resumption of flights.

Cooperation for Security

Particular attention was paid to the mechanisms of coordination between civil and military aviation. This was reported by Oleh Zakharchuk, Deputy Commander of the Centre Air Command for Aviation. The discussion was attended by representatives of airlines such as AirBaltic, Austrian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, SkyUp Airlines and others, which demonstrates their great interest in resuming air traffic with Ukraine.

Thanks to the joint efforts of international partners and industry professionals, Ukraine is gaining new prospects for the development of its aviation infrastructure. This will be an important step towards restoring the country’s economy and strengthening ties with the international community.
