On 26 November, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine registered a draft resolution to dismiss Rustem Umerov from the post of Defence Minister. The initiative was put forward by European Solidarity MP Oleksiy Honcharenko. The document has now been submitted to the parliamentary leadership for consideration.
This was reported by the Time Ukraine Israel portal, citing the official website of the Ukrainian Parliament.
Reason for resignation and position of the initiator
According to Honcharenko, the decision to register the resolution was the result of the scandal surrounding the supply of 120mm mines to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which, in his opinion, indicates serious problems in the execution of the defence procurement order. He said that after Umerov’s resignation, criminal proceedings should be initiated and clear court verdicts should be obtained.
“Umerov must resign. I have registered a resolution to dismiss the Minister of Defence of Ukraine. After the dismissal, there should be criminal cases. And preferably specific sentences,” Honcharenko stressed.
The resolution is due to be considered in the coming days, but the reaction of other political forces to this initiative remains unknown.
