Minister of Defence of Ukraine Rustem Umerov held talks with US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin as part of a regular meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defence in the Ramstein format. Umerov wrote about this in a post on Facebook.
According to the Ukrainian minister, the discussion was aimed at preparing for the group’s meeting and identifying key areas of cooperation between Ukraine and the United States in the defence sector.
“Today, coalition leaders are approving roadmaps for each of the eight areas of cooperation. These documents define the strategic goals and the main needs for military assistance until the end of 2027,” Umerov said.
The documents agreed upon by Ukraine and its international partners will include specific support measures in such important areas as:
- air defence (air defence),
- artillery systems,
- armoured vehicles,
- unmanned aerial vehicles,
- Air Force,
- maritime security.
The Minister stressed that this joint work will become the basis for providing military assistance and defining strategic goals necessary to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities in times of war.
“There is a lot of work to be done,” Umerov added, stressing the importance of synchronising the international coalition’s efforts to ensure stable and long-term support for the Ukrainian military.
The Ramstein format, initiated in 2022, remains a key mechanism for coordination between Ukraine and partner countries in providing military assistance, which is critical to countering Russian aggression.
