Ukraine’s Defence Minister Rustem Umerov met with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre to discuss the current situation at the front, winter challenges and opportunities to strengthen Ukraine’s defence. Umerov posted this on his Facebook page.

According to the Minister of Defence, the main topics of the meeting were Ukraine’s need to strengthen its air defence before the winter, as well as the possibility of attracting Norwegian investment in Ukraine’s defence industry.

“We have focused on key priorities: protecting our people from missile attacks and preparing for winter challenges. Norway can play an important role in strengthening our defence capabilities and developing the infrastructure necessary for this,” Umerov said.

The Minister of Defence thanked the Prime Minister and the people of Norway for a new aid package of EUR 500 million.

“This support is extremely important for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s ongoing aggression. We are grateful for the assistance and solidarity that Norway demonstrates by standing shoulder to shoulder with us,” Umerov said.

Norway remains one of Ukraine’s key partners in the defence sector. The country has already supported Ukraine with numerous military assistance packages, including strengthening its air defence and providing the necessary resources for the frontline. The discussion of new investment and cooperation opportunities demonstrates Oslo’s long-term interest in Ukraine’s stability and security.

“Norway stands with Ukraine in this difficult time, and we are working to strengthen our defence partnership. These are steps that bring our victory closer,” Umerov concluded.

Norway has previously announced its intention to invest more than €11 billion in Ukraine by 2030, allocating these funds for military and civilian assistance. Today’s agreement confirms the readiness of both countries to work towards common strategic goals.
