Rustem Umerov to head Ukrainian delegation at talks in Istanbul – Zelenskyy outlines key goals

Minister of Defence of Ukraine Rustem Umerov will lead the Ukrainian delegation at the talks to be held in Istanbul on Monday, 2 June. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his address published in Telegram.

The Head of State noted that the day before he had heard reports from the heads of law enforcement agencies and the diplomatic service: The Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the General Staff, the Intelligence Service and the Security Service of Ukraine. According to the President, the current agenda is to protect the independence of the state and the lives of citizens – both on the battlefield and through diplomacy.

Zelenskyy outlined the main tasks for the Ukrainian side during the meeting in Istanbul: a complete and unconditional ceasefire, the release of prisoners, the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia, and preparation for high-level talks to ensure real and lasting peace.

The President emphasised that he had made strategic decisions for the delegation that would represent Ukraine in Istanbul and instructed it to strictly adhere to the priorities that protect the national interests of the state.
