German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stressed that any negotiations on the war in Ukraine should be held only with the participation of Ukraine itself. He stressed that EU countries should continue to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
“There is one principle that almost everyone agrees on – nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. This must remain unchanged. This cannot be negotiated behind the backs of Ukrainians. Therefore, in my opinion, it is very important that all discussions about the future are transparent and take into account Ukraine’s interests,” Scholz said.
The Chancellor also noted that support for Ukraine is critical, as the country has been attacked for its desire to become part of a European community that shares the values of democracy and the rule of law.
“This war has only confirmed that Ukraine is a European nation, oriented towards the EU and its principles,” Scholz added, calling on the EU to continue supporting Ukraine on its path to victory and a peaceful European future.
