Acting Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met in Kyiv with Keith Kellogg, the US President’s Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia. The parties discussed key issues of defence partnership and coordination of sanctions policy towards Russia, the Government Portal reports.

Shmyhal thanked Donald Trump for the decision to transfer Patriot air defence systems and missiles to NATO allies for further transfer to Ukraine. According to him, the Ukrainian side is interested in deepening defence cooperation, in particular in the field of air defence.

“We are committed to developing joint production with the US and joint arms procurement with European partners,” Shmyhal said.

One of the main topics of the talks was the strengthening of sanctions pressure on Russia.

“We must deal a truly painful blow to the Russian economy. We count on the leadership role of the United States in bringing about a sustainable and just peace,” the head of the Ukrainian government stressed.

Kellogg, who made the visit as an aide to the US president, reaffirmed strategic support for Ukraine and praised Shmyhal’s role in organising international defence partnerships.
