Russian dictator Vladimir Putin cannot mediate in resolving the situation in the Middle East, as he is the one who is fuelling the war in Ukraine. The only way to peace is through tougher sanctions, further international isolation of the Kremlin and the use of frozen Russian assets.
This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga before the meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, Ukrinform reports.
“Putin is a warmonger. Today is the time to use all diplomatic tools to make the price of Russian aggression rise. These include sanctions, further isolation and confiscation of assets. That is why it is important that I am here today, on the eve of important NATO and EU summits,” Sibiga said.
According to him, another Russian missile attack on Ukrainian cities last night is the Kremlin’s real response to all peace initiatives.
“Right now, Moscow sees no point in negotiations. Therefore, we need to force it to peace. The concept of ‘peace through strength’ is something they understand,” the minister stressed.
Sibiga also noted that Ukraine, together with the Council of Europe, is actively working to establish a Special Tribunal to bring the Russian leadership to justice for the war.
The Ukrainian Foreign Minister is convinced: Russia, which is waging a bloody war against Ukraine, can never be a mediator in the Middle East.
“Decisive action is needed. Sanctions, isolation, and the use of frozen assets are the tools that should be used right now,” summed up Andriy Sybiga.
