Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock declared that supporting Ukraine is essential for the survival of the Republic of Moldova. She made this statement on Tuesday during a conference focused on Russia’s broader intervention in Eastern Europe, reports Reuters.
“Everything we do to support Ukraine also promotes stability for the Republic of Moldova,” Baerbock emphasized.
She made the comments during an official visit to Chișinău, where she, along with officials from Romania and France, participated in the Moldova Support Platform. Germany, one of Ukraine’s key military backers, initiated this platform after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
The platform is part of broader efforts to stabilize Moldova’s economy and protect the country from Russian disinformation campaigns.
Meanwhile, Moldovan President Maia Sandu highlighted the ongoing challenges her country faces and called for increased international support.
“Russia’s war against Ukraine, which we have condemned from day one, has caused tremendous damage to our economy,” Sandu stated. “The uncertainty caused by the war continues to significantly affect our economic development and will persist as long as the conflict lasts.”
