The 27th meeting of the Ramstein Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defence has begun, co-chaired for the first time by the UK Defence Secretary John Healey and German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius. Representatives from around 40 countries, including the United States and Ukraine’s Defence Minister Rustem Umerov, are taking part.
At the opening, Pistorius stressed Europe’s special responsibility:
“This is a conflict between freedom and oppression. Between the recognition of international standards and aggressive imperialism. It is time to realise the importance of Ukraine’s struggle.”
The focus is on further military assistance, air defence reinforcement, ammunition supplies, and a long-term strategy to support Ukraine in its war against Russia.
Launched in 2022, the Ramstein meeting has become a key platform for international coordination of assistance to Ukraine.
